Geoinformation technology is a rapid growth industry driven by increasing market demands. Understanding the latest developments is important to professionals and students alike and the Future University Faculty of GeoInformatics plays an important role in this. The faculty actively disseminates knowledge of current theory and application of geoinformatics. As the field continues to develop there is a great need for specialized training courses worldwide as well as specifically here in Sudan.
In the early years, geoinformatics was considered the domain of a relatively few secluded technogeeks “down the hall and to the right.” Today, it is on everyone’s desk, PDA and even cell phone. In just three decades, it has evolved from an emerging science and technology to a foundation of modern society. A society that depends on geoinformatics products for everything from getting driving directions to sharing interactive maps for various uses.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to this Faculty that offers a world-class, new, and emerging ICT-based Geoinformatics courses that are needed by the new leaders in the academic, research, and linkage endeavors to attain sustainable development. I look forward to your full support for the attainment of goals and objectives of the FU–Sudan
Vision and Mission
We envision to be an internationally renowned center of Geoinformatics with trilogy functions in academic, research, and linkages.
Our task is to produce market-ready and quality graduates in the field of Geoinformatics and allied space science and technologies for sustainable development with adequate manpower and ICT resources.
Our specific objectives are:
- To offer innovative and emerging new ICT-based space science and technology courses to cater trilogy functions of academic, research, and linkages for excellence in Sudan, other African regions, and worldwide
- To provide students from local and international levels a conducive learning atmosphere and prepare them as future leaders on ICT-based geo-spatial, remote sensing, bioenvironmental systems engineering, geo- and sustainability science education
- To strengthen national and external linkages on education for sustainable development, for mutual benefits, and friendship
- To provide feeder faculties for post-graduate courses in MS/PhD and diploma.
To be admitted in any degree program of the Faculty of Geoinformatics, the student must have one of the following certificates:
- Sudan School Certificate (academic-technical-commercial)
- Equivalent School Certificate from Arab Countries
- Egyptian Secondary School Certificates and other foreign certificates
Admission of student percentage of the grades or scores attained in the following subjects: Arabic Language, Religious Education, English Language, Basic or Additional Mathematics, and 3 optional subjects.
This is the first degree established by the Faculty in 2008 to offer very popular geo-spatial techniques and tools such as GIS and remote sensing.The Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Geoinformatics (BSGIS) is an applied science and technology (S&T) program that produces market-ready graduates with a sound knowledge and skills in geoinformation technology and other space science, geo-spatial and ICT-based related technologies which have found worldwide applications in natural resource management (hazard and vulnerability detection and geo-spatial mapping), agro-industrial development, environmental management, business, social sciences (gender, poverty, crime, home security mapping) and other related sciences and national strategic planning including in rural/urban areas, as well as geospatial intelligence, etc.
Geoinformatics is the art and science of gathering, processing, managing and disseminating spatial and attribute data of the earth. This emerging degree course is intended to produce professionals who are capable of using the geoinformation technology for the economic and physical development of Sudan and other areas of interests.
This new degree was created to provide an exciting development in new remote sensing science and technology that will contribute greatly to our understanding of the Earth system. Ultimately, our mission is to learn and develop scientific understanding of the Earth system and its responses to natural and human-induced changes.
